The Valkyries will play their final game before the FIBA break against the Fire in Portland on Sunday. Golden State will be short-handed for Sunday’s game, with Gabby Williams, Janelle Salaün and Cecilia Zandalasini having all departed to participate in the World Cup. The Fire have mathematically been eliminated from postseason contention, meaning none of this year’s two expansion teams will join the Valkyries in making the playoffs in their inaugural season.

The Golden State Valkyries beat the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx 80-66 for their first-ever win against the franchise at Target Center on Monday. The Valkyries were previously 0-6 against the Lynx in the regular season and 0-3 in the postseason, but ended the skid emphatically, defeating Minnesota by the largest margin of any Lynx opponent this season (14) and holding them to a season-low in points (66). Former Lynx guard Cecilia Zandalasini led all scorers with 18 points and was joined by four teammates — Gabby Williams (15 PTS), Veronica Burton (14 PTS), Tiffany Hayes (14 PTS) and Janelle Salaün (12 PTS) — who scored in double figures. With the win, Golden State prevents Minnesota from clinching the first seed and moves within four games of them with seven games remaining. GOLDEN STATE REPRESENTATION IN FIBA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP
The Valkyries will be well represented in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup with four active players participating: Gabby Williams (France), Janelle Salaün (France), Cecilia Zandalasini (Italy) and Miela Sowah (Australia). The No. 38 pick by the Valkyries in the 2026 WNBA Draft, Kokoro Tanaka (Japan), will also play and Head Coach Natalie Nakase will be an assistant coach for Team USA.
