City Halls Across the Bay Area Will Raise Valkyries Flags And Landmarks Will Glow Violet To Celebrate The Team’s Second Playoff Appearance In Franchise’s Second Year

The Golden State Valkyries announced that Violet Day will take place on September 25, a regionwide celebration of the team before its first game of the 2026 WNBA Playoffs presented by Kaiser Permanente featuring flag-raising ceremonies in Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose, violet-lit landmarks, themed specials and discounts at various local businesses across the Bay Area.

“Violet Day is a celebration of this incredible team making history –again— and the extraordinary community that powers us,” said Jess Smith, President of the Golden State Valkyries. “This region built this movement. On September 25, we want everyone to wear Valkyries violet, support local businesses, and bring the spirit of Ballhalla to all corners of the Bay.”

To help fans gear up for the occasion, the Valkyries are offering 20% off select merchandise at shop.valkyries.com using the code VIOLETDAY, or in person at the Golden State Shop from September 21 through September 25. Bay Area residents across the region are encouraged to wear Valkyries violet on September 25 to join the movement and support the team. San Francisco's Salesforce Tower will feature a custom LED art display showcasing Valkyries players, while iconic landmarks across the city will light up in the team’s signature violet.

The Valkyries Bar Network partners will also take part in the day’s celebrations with violet-themed drinks, and other local businesses will be rolling out their own Violet Day specials. Specific times and event details for each city's flag-raising ceremony will be announced in the coming days.

“After only two years, the Valkyries have become a source of pride for our entire city,” said Mayor Lurie. “They’ve given San Francisco an incredible season, with the strongest defense in the WNBA, and now they’re heading into the playoffs with our city behind them. We’re naming September 25 Violet Day and asking San Franciscans to wear violet to school, to work, and across our city. Let’s show up for the Valkyries and celebrate this season as they make their playoff run.”
