Tiffany Hayes had a complete all-around performance, tallying 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in the Valkyries’ 91-71 victory over the Chicago Sky at Chase Center on Wednesday. Hayes became just the third player in the WNBA this season to reach these numbers in a game while shooting over 70 percent from the field, joining A'ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston. She accomplished the feat in just 17 minutes of action and was a plus-23 in that time. Hayes was the highest of five Valkyries to score in double figures (Hayes 22 PTS, Kaila Charles 15 PTS, Gabby Williams 13 PTS, Veronica Burton 13 PTS, Cecilia Zandalasini 12 PTS) and Golden State led by as many as 23 points in the win.

SKY SOAR TO THE PAINT EARLY
The Valkyries entered Wednesday’s game shorthanded in the front court as they were without their starting center, Kiah Stokes (Concussion protocol), and the WNBA’s leading scorer off the bench, forward Janelle Salaün (right knee soreness). To compensate for their injured players, Golden State awarded Laeticia Amihere her first career WNBA start and activated developmental big Ashten Prechtel, who received rotation minutes as a backup big. The Sky attacked the paint early and often in the first quarter, as half of their 24 first-quarter points came in the restricted area. Chicago and Golden State attempted an equal number of shots in the first quarter (19), but the Sky made five more (11-6), largely due to their higher volume of shots around the rim (9 2PA for Sky, 3 2PA for Valkyries).

HAYES STARTS 4-FOR-4, REACHES DOUBLE FIGURES IN FIRST HALF
Tiffany Hayes was the spark plug that got the Valkyries going in the first half, as she made her first four field goal attempts, with the fourth giving Golden State its first lead of the night. Hayes opened with a 3-pointer and quickly went back into attack mode by stealing an inbounds pass and finishing a layup on the other end. She would go on to add a 3-point play and a go-ahead layup in the second quarter, as the Valkyries overcame an eight-point deficit. Hayes had scored in double figures in a half five times this season and recently passed Swin Cash for 28th on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list. The Valkyries outscored the Sky by 11 points in the second quarter, 27-16, to take a three-point halftime lead and Hayes ended the half as the team’s leading scorer with 11 points.

VALKYRIES SCORE 10 STRAIGHT POINTS TO TAKE CONTROL IN THIRD QUARTER
The Valkyries blew the game open in the third quarter, scoring 10 straight points and expanding their lead to 14. Hayes began the run by converting another 3-point play after getting hit in the face on a drive. She then fed Kaila Charles inside for a fadeaway jumper. Hayes also assisted on a Kaitlyn Chen 3-pointer from the right wing and Gabby Williams capped the run with a steal-and-score. Hayes scored nine points in the quarter, bringing her game total to 20 points and marking her third 20-point outing of the year.
